At WNYTQ-IP, we provide EAS messages from multiple sources:
GWES CAR — Sourced directly through the WNYTQ-IP EAS software via the Global Weather & EAS Society's CAR feed.
NEAR (National Emergency Alert Relay) — A system running on a dedicated laptop that listens to WHYY-FM Philadelphia via radio, decodes EAS headers, and records alerts as they are broadcast. Decoded alerts are then relayed to the WNYTQ-IP EAS software, which forwards them as NEAR alerts. NEAR is limited to National EAS alerts, Required Monthly Tests, and Required Weekly Tests.
EAS Software Automated Testing — Generated directly by the WNYTQ-IP EAS software for internal system verification, such as the Weekly Test and NJ Monthly Test.
Live EAS System — Used for Emergency Programming Statements and for testing other systems that utilize EAS. This handles alerts that do not originate from any of the automated sources above.
Crawl Screen — Used during WNYTQ-IP YouTube Live Streams, the Crawl Screen decodes EAS headers when able and displays alert information as a scrolling text bar. For example: "An EAS Participant has issued a Required Weekly Test for the following counties or areas: Burlington County, NJ. Message from WNYTQ-IP" Note: The crawl may not always display successfully.
EAS Logger — Built into both the WNYTQ-IP EAS Software and the Live EAS System, the EAS Logger records all alerts sent. It is based on OPENEndec, with modifications that include source identification and audio logging.
